Water Coolers to Get Clean & Safe Water

If you don’t rely on your city water, you can either filter your water at Point of Use or purchase bottled water. Bottle water contributes to landfill problems. Or you can have refrigerated ready to drink chilled water from water coolers which hold 5 gallons of great tasting water.

The water cooler is a freestanding device that cools water for drinking and is available in both bottled and bottle-less variants. Most floor mounted water coolers are around 3’ high. Moreover, if you have space on your desk you can use table top models.

Primarily there are two different types of water coolers available in the market.

Point Of Use water cooler: This cooler (also known as bottle less clear) is connected to the main water supply and hold ready to drink chilled water. There are both filtered and unfiltered units available.

Bottled-Water cooler: This cooler dispenses water from a plastic bottle generally placed on top of the unit. Most containers are 5 gallons, but 3 gallon bottles are also available in the market.

Types of Bottled Water

Spring water is mostly preferred and is generally described as groundwater that flows naturally and discharges to the land surface or into a stream, river, or lake. Purified water which may have been filtered using reverse osmosis, de-ionization, distillation or any other filtration methods is the normally sold in bottled water.

Most water coolers dispense both cold and plain water. Some expensive units have the provision of hot water as well.

Cold-Only Units: These units dispense cold water only. They use a refrigeration unit to keep the water cold.

Cook-and-Cold Units: These units dispense cold and room-temperature water, the latter primarily for use in cooking.

Hot-and-Cold Units: These units dispense both hot and cold water. Some units may even contain a third tap for room-temperature water. These models have an electric heater and a refrigeration cycle. Such units make great water coolers office. If you are planning to buy water coolers for office then this is the best option.

Probably, you may think that maintaining the device may be difficult. It is suggested to clean the machine on every bottle change.

How to Clean your Water Cooler?

Disconnect cable from the electrical outlet of the cooler. Remove the empty bottle from your cooler. Make a disinfecting solution by adding one tablespoon of household bleach to one gallon of water. You may also use other suitable disinfecting solutions. Some people have had good results with a combination vinegar/water mixture. You just have to be cautious to wash it very well afterwards. Put the solution into the tank. Wash reservoir properly with the solution and let it stand for not less than two minutes so as to be effective. Drain the disinfectant solution from reservoir through faucets. Rinse reservoir thoroughly with clean tap water, drain water through faucets, to remove traces of the solution. Repeat this at least four times. Lift off the drip tray from under the faucets and wash the tray with mild detergent. Rinse well in clean tap water and replace on cooler. And finally, enjoy your fresh, clean water.
