Ouse turn is it for lunch?

Join Toffee Factory as they brighten up grazing in the valley with Under the Arch. One day a week you’re invited to put that soggy sandwich to the back of your mind; alleviate the hassle of having to pack lunch, for every Thursday from 12-2pm, Toffee Factory will be hosting a pop-up food stall underneath their arch. Transport yourself to a different corner of the globe every week as Toffee Factory brings to Ouseburn Valley some of the North East’s favourite food establishments.

Tanya Garland of Cool Blue, a PR and graphic design agency based within Toffee Factory, is just one of many of the occupants to be enjoying the benefits of having some of the city’s favourite eateries on the doorstep.

“The Creative Space Management team at the Toffee Factory do a great job in fuelling a creative work place. They put a lot of effort into what many landlords might consider to be the softer side of working life such as organising exciting food, cultural and leisure events. These things make a big positive difference to creative teams like ours and the other businesses in the building. We really appreciate the thought that goes into bringing to our doorstep new and interesting things for us to try and do. It’s a happy and buzzing place to work. I’m delighted to have my business at the Toffee Factory and I know my team really enjoys being there. “

There is clearly a demand for a street food service such as this, with Jesmond’s Fat Hippo serving up gourmet burgers and hotdogs to over 90 people in the first of these weekly two hour slots. Along with Fat Hippo, many other local businesses will be taking up temporary residence under Toffee Factory’s arch, including Newcastle’s Electric East.

Mark Lagun, of Electric East said: “I am delighted to be taking part in Toffee Factory’s new Thursday lunch pop-ups. I think it’s great that they are offering this service to the occupants of their building as well as anyone else who happens to be in the neighbourhood and fancies popping by for a change from their usual lunchtime routine. Portable catering has taken off in a big way and doing something like this gives us a chance to share our food with a wider audience.”

Each Thursday will see a guest stall serve up delectable delights ranging from gourmet burgers to Indonesian street food and plenty in between. The beauty of street food means that if you’re in a rush you can stroll down on your lunch break and grab something to go; if it’s a more leisurely slice of downtime that you crave, pull up a seat under the arch and chow down on some freshly prepared – and reasonably priced – fare, right next to the river Ouse. After all, variety is the spice of life.
