£22m Newcastle Sixth Form College building opens
The £22m Newcastle Sixth Form College is set to open its doors next week to prospective students.
The purpose-built college, with debating chambers, on Westmorland Road will open on Wednesday June 5 for an open evening.
Newcastle Sixth Form College will offer more than 40 different courses, including A-Levels, the International Baccalaureate, and a range of GCSEs.
Prospective students and parents are invited to take a tour of the new college facilities and meet with tutors to discuss the range of courses and qualifications on offer from September.
The building boasts environmental and sustainable technologies, including an eco roof made up of 12 indigenous plants that flower in summer and help to mitigate the effects of dense traffic and population associated with its central city location.
The plants will reduce carbon dioxide around the campus, reduce the likelihood of flooding, insulate the building and help to entice wildlife to the centre of Newcastle.
Steve Gibson, Principal of Newcastle Sixth Form College, said: “We’re very excited to be opening the doors of the new building to the public for the first time.
“The new sixth form has been designed to the highest standards and includes some tremendous facilities that will make studying inspiring, interesting and fun, so we are sure students will love it as much as we do.
“It really is a dynamic, world class learning environment, and coupled with our outstanding teaching staff, we believe there will be no limits to what our students can achieve.”
The open evening runs from 4.30pm to 7pm. More information is available from enquiries@newcastlesixthformcollege.ac.uk.
