Baldwins accountants take up Myton Hospice's challenge

A kind-hearted firm of Coventry accountants replaced spreadsheets and calculators with quizzes and cakes to respond to Myton Hospice’s Take 50 Challenge.

Baldwin McCranor in Binley Road, Binley, answered an appeal to businesses across Coventry and Warwickshire to take up the hospice’s 2013 plan of action to turn £50 into £1,000 in just 50 days.

Detailed planning by the fundraising committee of Kelly Ralph, Caroline Finn and Clare Allen led to a series of initiatives to complete the task to raise money for the hospice which provides specialist palliative care for people in the sub-region from its sites in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick.

The trio cajoled colleagues at the accountants’ ten offices across the region into entering a quiz, raffling prizes donated by generous clients and baking cakes in a collective effort from the company.

The final £1,000 target was reached with donations from John Edwards, Zoe Walsh and Peter West, who are all partners at Baldwin McCranor in Binley Road.

John said it was the first time the accountants had been involved in the Take 50 Challenge and they were delighted with the response of colleagues and clients.

He said: “Kelly, Caroline and Clare worked really hard to lead our fundraising drive and came up with a number of ideas which were well received.

“They acted as quiz masters and distributed quizzes for £1 each to our ten offices, they baked chocolate and Victoria sponge cakes and co-ordinated raffle prizes donated by clients throughout the region.

“To complete the challenge, myself, Zoe and Peter added the final amount needed to reach £1,000 because we were so impressed with the way everyone throughout the company embraced the task.

“Myton Hospice is a well-known local charity which needs £6.7 million annually in voluntary donations to ensure its hospices continue to care for local people and their families at a time when they need it the most so this was a really worthy cause.”
