Widget joins Britain's 6% fastest growing firms

Electronics firm Widget UK has joined new business community ACCELERATE 250, after an invitation from Sir Terry Leahy and Lord Young.

Widget distributes consumer electronics to retailers and resellers in the UK, specialising in seeking out markets for new products.

The group is made up of the fastest growing companies in the UK today, who will be showcased at the community’s first event, ACCELERATE 2013, in Liverpool at the end of June.

Stevenage-based Widget UK will join the likes of Ella’s Kitchen, feelunique.com and Asset Match to represent Britain’s “vital 6%”, who are creating half of all new jobs in the UK economy.

The festival aims to raise the profiles of the UK’s fastest growing businesses, and hopes to give more insight into how they benefit the UK economy.

1,000 delegates will gather in Liverpool on 27th June from a wide range of industries, including fashion, food, pharmaceuticals and finance.

Former Tesco chief executive, Sir Terry Leahy, commented: “It’s our belief that Britain’s prosperity in the 21st century global economy is going to be built on the success of high-potential, fast-growth businesses.

“That is why, this coming June, we will be assembling a new group of Britain’s brightest and best businesses to put them at the heart of Britain’s economic renaissance.”

Mark Needham, chairman and founder of Widget UK, added: “We are thrilled that Widget has been identified as one of the UK’s most high-potential small businesses.

“In the 1980s and 90s Lord Young was one of our customers back in the day when we were a distributor for Psion’s handheld computers. It is very pleasing to have the opportunity to meet him again.”
