Boldon firm named Training Provider of the Year

Boldon-based Training in Care has scooped Sunderland’s Training Provider of the Year at the City of Sunderland Family Adult and Community Learning awards.

The enterprise trains care workers and offers them a chance of employment in a community interest company, and one of its students, Haley Wooley, was named Learner of the Year at the same event.

CEO, Angela Brown, said: “It was a complete surprise to win and testament to the hard work of all our partners at Family Adult & Community Learning, tutors and learners.

“What makes us different as a training provider is that we don’t just train people in accredited care qualifications, we are also an incubator. We support learners in terms of their employability in securing them jobs in our community interest company The Care People.

“The expertise they develop through training and work goes straight back into the community and allows them to work around their family responsibilities.”

Training in Care were nominated for the award by a number of their own learners who stressed that its tutors were always keen to provide additional support to overcome any barriers to learning.

The company’s model of training and employment has attracted international interest, and Dr Brown said funding cuts have lead to innovation among training providers.

She said: “We are used to being flexible and it is a credit to providers in the North East that they’re able to adapt in response to each government agenda to meet the needs of learners and employers.”
