Come and have ‘Tea with an Architect’

A leading Middlesbrough furniture retailer is championing local architects by partnering with The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in a series of free customer events.

Barker and Stonehouse is supporting RIBA’s annual Love Architecture Festival by hosting free ‘Tea with an Architect’ sessions with some of the region’s top architects in its Middlesbrough store on Saturday, June 22.

The 30 minute consultations are one-on-one and will give customers the opportunity to bring in their ideas, designs and questions to renowned architects from companies including DKS Architects, responsible for the refurbishment of the Acklam Park Club.

The ‘Tea with an Architect’ programme is designed to provide access to industry experts for people thinking about building a house from scratch, trying to decide on purchasing a do-up property, or looking to extend their own home.

Barker and Stonehouse managing director, James Barker, said of the retailer’s engagement with the festival: “Barker and Stonehouse has always promoted great furniture design and there’s a strong link between this and good architectural design.

“A well-designed building will create space that’s not only highly functional but which acts as the perfect foil for good-looking, well-crafted furniture. That’s why we’re hosting these sessions. They provide a cost-free and informal way for customers and the public to find out how an architect can help the get the most out of their living space.

“Most people have never worked with an architect so they’re likely to be pleasantly surprised at the great design solutions and innovative ideas that will come out of this process.”
