Greening the future of the cleaning industry
A North East firm is working to make sure that the environment is placed firmly at the heart of training for future recruits to the cleaning industry.
Freedom Specialist Services cleaning firm, based in County Durham, provides City & Guilds training and is developing a bespoke module on green cleaning. The first of its kind, the training will cover all aspects of environmentally-friendly cleaning products, equipment and procedures.
Managing director, Sue Brown (pictured), said: “There are few green cleaning companies or training available that specialise in green cleaning. The addition of this green cleaning module to the City & Guilds training will help to up-skill the industry’s workforce while encouraging the use of eco and environmentally-friendly cleaning methods.”
The green cleaning module will be competed and ready for City & Guild students in September 2013.
Barbara Ellul, City & Guilds Portfolio Advisor for the Built Environment Services, said: “We are delighted that Freedom Specialist Services are taking this important step to help green the cleaning industry. The purpose of the green cleaning training is about effective cleaning that is safer than the traditional methods used in the industry and is critical to the future of the cleaning industry.”
Sue said: “The training module will focus not only on how green cleaning can be implemented but also will look at how this can reduce illnesses that arise from exposure as well as the inevitable damage to the environment from disposal of products that are used every day. It is often overlooked that cleaners are responsible for the health and hygiene of the individuals that they clean for.
“Ultimately I want to see every cleaning company using environmentally-friendly practises as standard.”
