PH Media Group helps Mo go for gold
June 12, 2013 – PH Media Group is helping to give Manchester wrestler Mo Osman one last shot at a Commonwealth Games gold medal.
The Old Trafford-based firm is sponsoring Osman in his preparations for the 2014 Games in Glasgow, providing the necessary financial support to fund his quest for glory.
A nine-time British champion, he was born in Iraq and raised in Iran but now lives in Heaton Mersey and is a familiar face around Manchester. Osman is a doorman at a number of the city’s best-known nightspots and also works full-time as a teaching assistant at Burnage Media Arts College.
At 33, he admits Glasgow will be his last chance to win gold and he is determined to fulfil his dream after missing out at the last Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
“If I win gold at next year’s Commonwealth Games I will be able to retire a happy man,” said Osman.
“I’ve been British champion nine times but I’ve not won a medal at this level so I really want it this time. I’m desperate to win gold before calling it a day.
“I’m really happy PH Media offered to help me. I’ve been working two jobs because I have to pay the mortgage and it’s difficult to fund things like training camps, equipment and travel as well.
“It’s hard to fulfil my dream because I’ve not been offered any funding from the authorities and, without the extra support, I wouldn’t be able to do it.”
PH Media Group’s support allowed Osman to travel to recent training camps in Russia and Iran, where he was able to hone his skills against some of the best wrestlers in the world.
Normally, he trains at the Y Club in Manchester and the Wrestling Academy in Salford and is currently working towards the upcoming British Championships on Sunday (June 16), where he will compete in the 74kg class.
He added: “At the moment I’m getting up at 6am every morning so I can fit in a bit of training before work and I’m working on my wrestling four times a week.
“I feel like I’m in good shape for the British Championships and I want to come back from there with the title.
“I’m aiming to fit in three major competitions before the Commonwealth Games and that would get me off to the perfect start.”
