Precision engineering firm expands into new premises

High speed wi-fi has enabled a growing precision engineering firm to expand into larger premises.

Springfield (NE) Limited, which lists Nissan and Caterpillar among its clients. has moved into a new 10,000 sq foot premises near its County Durham base.

The move was supported by the installation of a building-to-building wi-fi link to extend the company’s computer network.

The work by Clive Owen Technology Services enabled the firm to locate its CAD design team in the new offices and extend its telephone system over the Wi-Fi link.

The move to the Chilton Industrial Estate, near Spennymoor follows a successful year for the engineering firm which has doubled its turnover in the last 12 months to in excess of £1.2m.

The company was started in 2005 by husband and wife team, Colin and Marion Milsom, and now employs 15 staff.

The firm designs and manufactures bespoke machinery and jigs & fixtures for a mixture of industries including the automotive and heavy goods markets.

Marion, a director at the firm, said: “We love what we do. From our point of view it’s not just about a job, we go the extra mile to ensure our customers are happy and all of our business comes from word-of-mouth.

“We design and manufacture in house so we needed a good IT system. Clive Owen understood what we needed straight away and how it was essential to have the right infrastructure in place to allow us to keep growing. They did a fantastic job for us.”

Clive Owen Technology Services was launched 12 months ago to reflect the growing number of clients who need innovative IT solutions to improve efficiency and help them grow their businesses.

Lee Huck, Clive Owen Technology Services director, said: “Springfield is a great example of the skills, precision and talent North East manufacturing firms can offer companies such as Nissan.

“Now they have their new IT system in place, at a fraction of the cost of laying cabling between the two buildings, there’s nothing to stop them moving forward with their growth plans. We wish them every success.”
