Sunderland events firm wins National Glass Centre contract

A Sunderland events management company has landed a contract to cater for events at the newly refurbished National Glass Centre.

1879 Events Management will provide bespoke catering for conferences, events and private functions at the iconic venue.

National Glass Centre, which is part of the University of Sunderland, is re-launching following a £2m refurbishment, including a restaurant, which will be unveiled to the public across a weekend of celebrations on June 29 and 30.

1879 will also manage the centre’s new in-house restaurant, The Brasserie which will open from July 1.

As a subsidiary of Sunderland Football Club (SAFC), 1879 will also oversee catering for all business and private functions in the venue’s newly expanded event space.

The fully licenced venue can host a range of events from small business meetings through to weddings for 300 guests.

This is the latest big contract win for 1879, which utilises Sunderland AFC’s staff to operate outside events, using their expertise and experience in managing events at the Stadium of Light, from matchday hospitality to music concerts.

Gary Hutchinson, Commercial Director at Sunderland AFC, said: “National Glass Centre is an iconic visitor attraction and offers a unique events space for businesses in the region and across the UK.

“We are delighted to be able to offer National Glass Centre to compliment our already impressive portfolio of events spaces at the Stadium of Light and are very proud to be able to showcase a fine dining option with our new evening concept in the Brasserie.

“This is another great win for 1879 Events and we look forward to working with Sunderland University and National Glass Centre’s team moving forward.”
