North East local authorities form combined body
Seven North East councils have formed a new leadership body to collectively tackle economic growth in the region.
The LA7 Leadership Board comprises representatives from seven local authorities including Durham County Council, Gateshead Council, Newcastle City Council, North Tyneside Council, Northumberland County Council, South Tyneside Council and Sunderland City Council.
The move follows recommendations in the Adonis report which were backed by Minister for Cities, Greg Clark, and will aim to gain devolved powers as the Heseltine report suggested in March.
It will supersede the Tyne and Wear Integrated Transport Authority and will focus on transport and skills as the two key priorities in driving economic growth.
The LA7 Leadership Board will be chaired by Leader of Gateshead Council.
