Marches LEP appoints new chairman
The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership has appointed Shropshire businessman Graham Wynn OBE as its new chairman.
Mr Wynn is chairman of the TTC Group, the UK’s leading national driver training organisation, and succeeds founding LEP chairman Dr Geoffrey Davies OBE.
A LEP Board member since 2011, he is a member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS), and current chairman of the Telford Business Board. With a background in the automotive and agricultural engineering sector, Mr Wynn was awarded the OBE for services to road safety in 2006.
Mr Wynn said: “I’m delighted to be appointed as the next chairman of the Marches LEP and would like to thank Dr Davies for his work for the Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin region over the last two years.
“The LEP has a vital role to play in driving the economic growth of our region forward, and making sure the Marches takes full advantage of the opportunities which lie ahead. The partnership’s Strategy for Growth clearly identifies the priorities we need to tackle in the coming years and I’m looking forward to the challenge, working alongside an experienced LEP Board, our local authorities and the business community.
“We need to drive business growth, boost income generation and create jobs. We know there are barriers to business growth, and our job is to help remove those. We need to identify opportunities in the Marches, play to our strengths and unlock the potential of our region.”
Mr Wynn paid tribute to the parternship’s founding chairman, Dr Davies, who will remain on the board leading the partnership’s work to create a National Aeronautical Academy at RAF Cosford.
“Dr Davies has worked hard to develop the LEP and to represent the needs of this unique area over the two years of his chairmanship - a period of time which has seen the region attract £10.4 million of funding.”
Dr Davies added: “Graham is an experienced and influential businessman who has worked with public and private sector organisations across the UK for many years.
“As a businessman based in the Marches, and a member of the LEP Board for the last two years, Graham understands the work which needs to be done here to bring about economic vitality and the creation of sustainable private sector jobs.”
Mr Wynn, 63, runs the TTC Group with his wife, Jenny Wynn, managing director of the company. TTC Group has been identified regionally as a high growth enterprise with revenues for 2012 in excess of £25 million and trains over 250,000 drivers annually.
A former vice-chairman of Transforming Telford, he is also a founding member and former chairman of the Telford Business Partnership.
