Business backs revolutionary new school
North East companies are getting involved in a revolutionary new concept in education which aims to equip a generation with the skills businesses need.
One of 13 new Studio Schools which are being spearheaded by the Government, Studio West will be the only one to have real businesses housed within the premises and use ground-breaking methods of teaching to equip students with the necessary skills for work by immersing them in real-life employment culture from the very start.
The school, which counts amongst its board members leading entrepreneur and CEO of £50m investment firm Middleton Enterprises Jeremy Middleton will be supporting Studio West Project Manager Val Wigham as she holds a business engagement seminar for interested parties, at Kenton School, on Monday, July 1.
As well as being able to base their firms in the vibrant on-site Enterprise Centre, companies involved in the school, which is sponsored by Kenton Schools Academy Trust, will have the chance to help develop the curriculum, mentor pupils and offer them work experience and apprenticeship opportunities.
The school will have a uniquely structured curriculum, which will encourage independence, enterprise, personal responsibility and team work by taking school into the workplace and the workplace into school.
Studio West will pioneer real-life, work-based, project learning by teaching more than 50 per cent of the curriculum through learning projects to nurture students to become some of the most successful professionals in their chosen field.
Val Wigham, Project Manager of Studio West, said: “We are proud that this visionary new school, which will change the face of education and business, is being pioneered right here in the North East. Dozens of businesses have already expressed an interest in being involved because they, like us, believe this school will equip school leavers with the skills businesses actually want and need, creating an unrivaled pool of skilled and talented young people who can make an invaluable contribution to the North East economy.”
Mr Middleton said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for businesses to become involved in this dynamic new education concept, which will help ensure the next generation has the skills and qualifications businesses really need and desire.
“Studio West will lead the way nationally to help our young people bridge the gap between education and work and I would encourage all businesses to back it.”
Any firms interested in attending the seminar, which will take place from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, July 1, can call Val Wigham on 0191-214-2200.
