JF Finnegan Wins Chesterfield College Contract

Sheffield based contractor and developer, JF Finnegan, has won a competitive design and build contract to create stunning, high design new teaching facilities at Chesterfield College.

The works consist of a reconstruction of the existing North Block 4 at Chesterfield College to create a new teaching facilities block which is reflective of the College’s modern approach and will offer enhanced learning facilities for its valued student base.

The project will involve demolition, structural alterations, roof and window replacement, glazing to the arches, new mechanical and electrical installations as well as comprehensive refurbishment and remodelling of the ground and first floors. The Block will incorporate a brand new Learning Resource Centre for all students to use. Associated external works will also be undertaken and JF Finnegan has now started on site with works due for completion prior to Christmas 2013.

This is the second phase of works that JF Finnegan has undertaken at Chesterfield College following on from their creation of the College’s acclaimed new entrance on Infirmary Road last year which housed new student services, reception and library, meeting rooms and executive offices as well as a new social “heart space” achieved by roofing over the large external quadrant.

Mike Thackery, Head of Facilities at Chesterfield College, said; “This is an extremely exciting announcement for Chesterfield College. Students and staff alike are looking forward to seeing our new facilities begin to take shape. This phase of works is part of a long-term programme of refurbishment at the College. We pride ourselves on being a successful, vibrant College and with such improvements and modernisations to our campus we hope to continue attracting an ambitious and diverse range of students to Chesterfield.”

Dawa Singh, Head of Pre-Construction, Design and Build Manager at JF Finnegan, continued; “It is always rewarding to work on projects for the education sector and we are thrilled to have been selected once again by Chesterfield College. The new teaching facilities will complement the modern new entrance and will enhance the College’s already impressive campus.”
