Yorkshire students ready to give it some Umph!
Teams of sixth formers from across Yorkshire are gearing up to take part in a business and enterprise competition at Huddersfield Stadium next Tuesday (2 July).
Organised by business adviser Grant Thornton, the Umph! contest gives teams of students the chance to work closely with entrepreneurs from the North of England, picking up tips and advice, before competing against each other to create the most successful ‘virtual business’ using business simulation software from SimVenture.
Umph! is part of Grant Thornton’s ‘Educate to Innovate’ scheme, which it has developed in Yorkshire to forge closer links between education and business.
From in-school workshops to site visits and mentoring schemes, the scheme aims to instil in students the knowledge, awareness and aptitude for business and entrepreneurialism required by employers.
Sandra O’Neill, head of business development at Grant Thornton, said: “It’s essential that our young people are given the chance to learn about business in a practical way.”
Umph! is also supported by Huddersfield Town Football Club, law firm Dickinson Bond, Kirklees Council, SimVenture, Fantastic Media and Huddersfield
