UK partnership gives Chinese motorsport the competitive edge

UK PARTNERSHIP GIVES CHINESE MOTORSPORT THE COMPETITIVE EDGE

The Chinese Touring Car Championship (CTCC) is one of many fast-growing motorsport race series in China - and Asia-Pacific - whose popularity is rising thanks to partnerships with UK companies like transmission specialist Hewland Engineering.

Hewland has been providing its EGT racing gearbox to the CTCC since 2011 and supplied the gearbox for the fastest car in the 2012 Championship’s Super Production Class (1600 turbo class), a VW Scirroco from the Shanghai VW 333 Racing team.

Chinese motor racing is growing at such a phenomenal rate that racing teams in the region are looking to more experienced areas of the world to support this growth. Hewland is able to work in close partnership with burgeoning race series’ to share the knowledge and expertise it has gained from its sixty-year heritage of developing transmission technology. In fact 69 per cent of its sales last year were exports.

“With the prospect of an Asian Touring Car Championship in 2014, and the rise of junior race series in the region cultivating the next generation of talent, Chinese motorsport is facing a bright and exciting future.
