Basildon fire protection specialists recognised with award

Passive fire protection specialists Sharpfibre have been officially recognised as experts in their field by way of a prestigious award.

Already established as one of the UK’s premier fire protection contractors, Sharpfibre have now been named as winners of the ‘ASP Passive Fire Protection Installation Project of the Year’ award at this year’s FIREX International awards.

The annual awards ceremony is hosted by FIREX International, organisers of the county’s leading event for fire protection professionals, and celebrates the very best products and innovations in the security and fire industry.

The award was in recognition of an extensive fire protection system installation at London’s ‘Walkie Talkie’ building on Fenchurch Street, which gets its nickname thanks to its unique appearance.

The project, which involved protecting a total of 80,000m2 of structural steelwork, was delivered on time, thanks to the use of a specialist fireproofing spray, which involved endothermic materials being pumped around the building without impacting on, or delaying other areas of the construction process.

The award was presented by former Leicester and England rugby player, Austin Healey and Judge Brian Sims, who said:

“The standard of entrants this year was exceptionally high and which made our jobs as judges even more difficult. We would like to congratulate all the winners for their outstanding innovations this year.”
