IHC approaches 200-strong workforce with job creation
IHC Engineering Business, the designer and manufacturer of equipment for the offshore industries, has continued its expansion with plans to create more new jobs to fulfil the demands of the order book.
10 vacancies have already been created with significant further demand expected in the coming months.
The Northumberland-based company is now approaching a permanent workforce of 200, split between its design and management offices in Stocksfield and its customer support facility at Riverside Quay, Port of Tyne.
Positions have been created across the company’s engineering, finance, construction, projects and operations department to meet the growing requirements for IHC Engineering Business’ specialist services.
The company designs and manufactures bespoke tailor-made equipment to customers’ requirements in addition to an established subsea vehicle product range.
Working across the offshore oil & gas, submarine telecoms and renewable offshore power industries, IHC Engineering Business’ core expertise including pipe and cable lay, subsea trenching and offshore handling systems.
The growth at IHC has come on the back of a number of significant project wins, which included the production of a 2,000 tonne Reel-Lay System for Technip. Designed and manufactured in the North East, the system has been installed on the vessel ‘Deep Energy’ in Norway and is expected to enter service this summer.
Further projects are in the pipeline from the offshore energy industry, which has required the need for additional engineers and technicians.
John Dale, Managing Director of IHC Engineering Business, said: “Despite concerns over the pace of developments in the offshore renewables sector, the offshore industry remains fairly buoyant and we are confident that we will continue to experience growth in coming months.
“It is always pleasing to expand our permanent workforce and approaching the 200-employee mark is a demonstration of the important position the company has created for itself in the market.”
He added: “The North East has a core of skilled engineers who we are keen to attract, but we are also looking for engineers from outside the region who would enjoy living and working in the North East as part of a globally-respected company operating at the forefront of a vibrant industry.”
