Green events firm takes on EcoVillage

The green events planner behind The Big Eco Show has added another sustainable living show to its portfolio.

Gateshead-based Daisy Green, which also runs an online magazine, has taken on the established EcoVillage brand from its southern founders. EcoVillage was first held at Kent County Show in 2008 and will be debuted by its new managers at Corbridge Festival in Northumberland, then at the Royal Berkshire Showground.

The one-day Corbridge music event in August is now in its third year and seemed the ideal spot to bring the EcoVillage idea to the North East.

Daisy Green director, Nicola Little, said: “EcoVillage was founded by two women who are our southern counterparts.

“They have the same ethics as we do. Their message was to gatecrash big events and put up an eco village. We’re UK-wide and will keep doing the southern events. We’re looking to expand the concept.

“It’s all about businesses that are ethical, green and sustainable, from small businesses to energy companies producing solar panels.”

Visitors to the EcoVillage will find anything from information on renewables to handmade soap, with exhibitors covering green issues and eco-lifestyle choices.

EcoVillage will be run as a separate brand to the established Daisy Green and Big Eco shows.

Nicola said: “The brand stands up on its own. We already cover indoor events and business to business events and this brings in big outdoor and agricultural events. It closes the loop for us.

“I would love to get the Eco Village into the Great Yorkshire Showground and the Northumberland County Show.”

After a difficult 2012 during which it lost three members of its small team, Daisy Green is aiming to recruit again in the next 12 months.

The company, which launched the green business to business showcase Big Eco Show in Sunderland and Newcastle last year, will be taking the event back to Wearside in October and Tyneside in the spring next year.
