Community Centre gets new kitchen

Development and construction specialist Southdale has teamed up with homes and communities organisation livin to give a County Durham community centre a brand new kitchen area.

The facilities at Fishburn Community Centre were more than 30 years old, so Southdale and livin decided to team up to help bring them up to date.

Members of Southdale’s Darlington-based team removed the existing kitchen and replaced it with the new one, along with painting, tiling, tiles, flooring and electrical work. Moore Group provided the new kitchen, while Premier Decorating carried out their work free of charge.

Mark Wilson, North East business development manager at Southdale said: “We are always very keen to work with the communities in which we are active and when we learned of the community centre’s need for modern kitchen facilities, we were happy to help make a difference alongside livin.

“We have become increasingly active in developing affordable homes across South Durham, as a development partner of livin, and it is great to be able to help deliver this project and support a great community facility.”

Ian Brown, head of development and allocations, for livin said: “Staff at the community centre told us how desperate they were to update the kitchen so we were delighted when our partners Southdale alongside Moore Group supported the project. The centre is a valuable community facility and the new kitchen looks great we hope it will be well used by the whole community.”

Julia Spinks, Community Centre Treasurer, said: “The community centre users will greatly benefit from the new kitchen. It is planned to offer courses to utilise this new addition to the Centre for example Healthy Cookery. A big thank you to livin and Southdale for their contributions.”
