Potash apprentices to be trained by leading provider

TTE Apprenticeships Ltd, part of The TTE Technical Training Group, has been appointed by York Potash to deliver its apprenticeship programme.

The Company, which is planning to build a new potash mine near Whitby, has made a commitment to providing 50 engineering apprenticeships over the next three years with the first 20 due to start their training this autumn.

This is part of the company’s education and skills programme which will train up to 500 people over the next three years in order to maximise local employment.

Apprentices will undertake a three-year programme led by Middlesbrough-based TTE, one of the UK’s leading technical training providers, and will be delivered in partnership with Yorkshire Coast College where the majority of the first year will be based.

TTE has extensive experience in delivering training programmes in the oil and gas, manufacturing, process and engineering sectors and will prepare York Potash’s engineering apprentices for operational roles at the mine including mechanical fitters, electricians, instrumentation electricians and multi skilled operators.

Steve Grant, Managing Director from TTE said: “TTE Apprenticeships Ltd is delighted to have won the contract with York Potash because the Company is clearly committed to training and developing local young people. We are very excited about this project which is exactly in tune with TTE’s mission to improve industry’s performance and enhance lives.

“We look forward to working in partnership with Yorkshire Coast College to deliver high quality training in an exciting industry that provides local employment.”

After the first year at Yorkshire Coast College, apprentices will progress into the work place to do on-the-job training which will be done in partnership with local engineering companies who will host the apprentices and support their development until the mine is operational.

Matt Parsons, education and skills manager for York Potash said: “We’ve awarded the contract in recognition of TTE’s excellent track record in delivering engineering apprenticeships and welcome the involvement of Yorkshire Coast College to ensure this opportunity is accessible to young people living in the local area.”

York Potash is looking for talented young people aged under 25 with a minimum of 5 GCSEs A*-C and full details on how to apply will be available on the company’s website and widely advertised soon.

The Company reports that interest in these positions is already high so the recruitment process will involve short listing up to 50 applicants who will then partake in a one week technical training camp from which York Potash will select the final 20 apprentices with local businesses also encouraged to get involved. York Potash aims to help in providing a local talent pool which could also benefit other companies as York Potash looks to increase the supply of skilled people to benefit the wider business community.
