Work starts on 52 new North West homes

Construction and development specialist Southdale is starting work on three housing developments across the North West as part of a major venture to create homes and jobs in the region.

Worth a combined £5 million, the projects, in Salford, Prestwich and Burnley, are part of Build Learn Grow, a partnership between Southdale, Great Places Housing Group, Bolton at Home and Seddon.

Build Learn Grow will see a total of 300 homes built at sites in the North West and more than 20 apprenticeships created.

The three initial Southdale sites will see: • 23 two and three-bed homes created in a £2,000,000 project at Fitzwarren Street, Salford • 11 bungalows built at St Mary’s Court, Prestwich, in a £1,040,000 development • 18 two, three and four-bed houses developed at Queens Mill, Burnley in a £1,860,000 project

All homes, being developed for management by Great Places Housing Group, will be built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. A total of 10 apprentices and training opportunities will be created across the three sites.

The projects are set to be completed in the summer of 2014.

Stuart Allison, Southdale’s regional director, said: “The Build Learn Grow partnership is a fantastic opportunity to develop homes in communities where they are needed and help those areas to see major change happen. Getting started on site in Salford, Burnley and Prestwich is a real opportunity to start making this a reality for the people who live in these areas.”
