Developer to consult residents on flagship housing scheme

Housing developer Keepmoat is to consult with local residents and businesses about a proposed new development in the centre of Dunston.

The development, which is located on Ravensworth Road in Dunston, Gateshead includes the site of the former Dunston Rocket and comprises a mixture of uses.

The proposed £13 million new build scheme will include 47 apartments for older people, 45 two and three bedroom homes for private sale, a new GP surgery, a new food retail store, two additional retail outlets and a small park area.

Residents are invited to view proposals and discuss the plans with Keepmoat prior to them being submitted for planning permission later this month.

A consultation meeting will be held on Wednesday July, 17 at Dunston Excelsior Working Men’s Club between 3.00pm and 7.00pm.

Ian Prescott, Land and Partnerships Director at Keepmoat, said: “The former Rocket site offers a great opportunity to enhance the centre of Dunston. Together with the Council we believe we have put together some imaginative and exciting proposals for the site and we would like to engage local people and seek their comments. We have identified partners for each element of the project so we are presenting deliverable proposals which can become reality over the next few years.

Gateshead Council selected Keepmoat as the preferred developer for the scheme earlier this year and the new homes will be available for sale and affordable rent through housing provider, Vela.

If approved, it is expected that work will commence in the Autumn of 2013 and will take three years to complete.
