Hartlepool firm celebrates first year successes
An engineering business which was launched less than a year ago is on course to surpass first-year turnover, client portfolio and workforce targets as it continues to flourish.
C & A Pumps and Engineering was re-launched by current managing director Alan Roberts after its parent company Renew Holdings decided to close it.
Mr Roberts spent 24 years at the company before being made redundant, and decided to buy the identity and launch it as a separate company with the aim of reaching the £500,000 turnover mark at the end of year one.
Now, as it approaches its first birthday, he says the company is on target to surpass that figure.
Mr Roberts said: “I knew C & A Pumps was a great business so rather than let it close, I decided to re-launch it and build it back up.
“I really believed in it and with the backing of some of the company’s former employees, we secured new contracts very quickly.
“And as we approach the end of our first year, our success has surpassed all our expectations.
“We’re well on course to reach and pass the £500,000 turnover mark and we’ve brought on board some really prestigious clients, including SSI, UK Steel and Warburtons which have really strengthened our portfolio.
“We’ve also expanded our workforce and recently took on two new apprentices, who we see as having an important role to play in the continued growth of the business.”
C & A Pumps & Engineering Ltd, which is based at Queens Meadow Business Park in Hartlepool, provides electrical and mechanical installation services for commercial and industrial companies.
It also provides emergency electrical and mechanical maintenance services, and has launched a separate health and safety training consultancy called C & A Safety Solutions which is certified to ECITB (Engineering Construction Industry Training Board) standard.
The company was also runner up at the CIPD Awards in the Talent Attraction and Management category, coming second to North East bakery giant Greggs.
Mr Roberts added: “I am so happy to see how well the business has done in such a short space of time, particularly in the current climate which has seen many struggle to grow and even survive.
“The challenge now is to ensure that growth is maintained and that we reach the targets I set for the business when I launched, including reaching £1.2m in turnover by the end of year two.”
