Third site for Sheffield Housing Company

Work has started early on the third Sheffield Housing Company project which will bring a further 47 affordable homes to the city.

Cllr. Tony Damms, member for the Southey Ward and Cabinet Assistant in the Homes and Neighbourhoods department with the city council was joined by Eugien Jaruga, Keepmoat’s partnerships director and Matt Harrison, chief executive with Great Places Housing Group, to break the ground on the project which was originally scheduled for the autumn.

Sheffield Housing Company is a partnership of these three organisations, committed to creating up to 2,300 new homes over the next 15 years. The Shirecliffe properties will be two and three bedroomed homes and will be built on ten infill sites around the area in the north of the city.

There will be a mixture of homes for sale through Keepmoat, 11 for rent through Great Places and 12 through Sheffield City Council. The first homes are expected to be completed early next year.

Said Cllr. Damms: “The council has identified the need for better quality housing as a top priority and so I am delighted to see this partnership progressing so quickly, with the construction of homes of such high standards. Work is underway earlier than anticipated at Shirecliffe and people are about to move in to homes at Norfolk Park and Brearley Forge.”

Eugien Jaruga added: “It is to the credit of everyone involved that we have been able to move ahead so quickly in Sheffield and begin to deliver homes with an emphasis on size, quality and accessibility. As the developments progress we will also be looking to provide training and jobs for local people and business opportunities for local suppliers.”

Great Places is expected to begin allocating properties for rent in the autumn and Matt Harrison said: “We have already received very positive feedback about the quality and value these new homes offer and we look forward to providing more modern, affordable homes to the people of Sheffield in the near future.”

Show homes are already attracting a lot of attention at Cutler’s View in Norfolk Park, where 116 properties are being constructed in the first phase of development and at Brearley Forge in the Parson’s Cross area of the city where 142 homes are being built.

The first private buyers are expected to be moving in at both developments within the next three weeks.
