Le Tour de France 2014 Yorkshire opportunities outlined
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, the man with the vision to bring the world’s greatest road race, Le Tour de France, to Yorkshire in 2014, was the keynote speaker at Raworths Solicitors’ Breakfast Club event on today at Bettys Imperial Rooms.
The bi-annual Breakfast Club was attended by over 70 guests, all keen to hear how Le Grand Depart 2014 would bring opportunities for local businesses of all sizes as they join in one of the biggest events ever staged in Yorkshire.
With television audiences of 3.5 billion in over 188 countries, the start of Le Tour in 2014 will be a unique opportunity to put the region on the global map – with the attendant massive opportunities to welcome tourists to the region and promote its economy, cities and breathtaking countryside to international audiences
Gary Verity said: “The route will take riders through some of our great and historic cities, including the Roman walled city of York; Leeds, the UK’s second biggest financial centre; the stunning cathedral city of Ripon; and Sheffield, which is fast becoming known as one of Europe’s great sporting cities.
“They’ll wind through the glorious Yorkshire Dales National Park into the quintessential English market town of Harrogate before experiencing the dramatic rise and fall of the Pennines around Brontë country. We believe the watching world will find the route simply breathtaking.”
The audience also heard from Bob Philpin of PI Europe about how to recruit and retain staff performing at their highest level. Bob is a leadership coach and business adviser working across Europe with small to medium sized companies.
Zoe Robinson, managing partner at Raworths said: “We were delighted to have two such inspirational speakers at today’s event and it demonstrates very clearly how much local businesses are keen to make the most of opportunities coming to our area.”
