Three new start-ups welcomed by York Science Park
Expresso Investments Limited is a design house that embraces modern technologies and designers. Its team collaborates with others to produce innovative, commercially viable designs for everything from furniture to lighting.
Jonathan Emmott, joint managing director, said: “We chose to take a Springboard office because the feel and fit is right for us. It’s relaxed, beautifully designed, the people are full of energy and there is a real collaborative spirit. The pricing and rent structure is ideal for our new start, while the physical location and surrounding landscape are perfect.“York Science Park has welcomed three new start-ups to its incubation space, Springboard, with the arrival of GameSparks, Haider Green and Expresso Investments Limited. The move brings the numbers working at the stimulating environment for early stage businesses to 22, with GameSparks planning to create four further jobs.
Strategically located in the Ron Cooke Hub on the University of York’s new campus development, Springboard enables entrepreneurs and businesses to more easily access University departments. This support helps companies transform new ideas into lucrative, sustainable enterprises.
Tracey Smith, York Science Park managing director, said: “I’m thrilled to welcome three more entrepreneurial new businesses to our exciting new start area. From mobile games development and energy consultancy to product design, these diverse companies will contribute to - and benefit from - the dynamic environment.
“And as some of our existing early stage businesses are now established and moving on to the next stage of their development, we will have room for more new businesses soon.”
GameSparks is a platform provider for mobile games developers to help them launch games more quickly and for less money. In an ever-evolving sector, where Freemium is embraced and games are run increasingly in the Cloud, the business aims to help address this and make it easier for developers to be successful.
The GameSparks platform will launch at the end of July and the first game to use it, Beat Breaker, from Time Machine Games, is a ‘puzzler meets rhythm’, launching across iOS, Android and Windows. Gabriel Page, CTO, said: “We are delighted to have secured a place in Springboard. Being located on campus gives us access to up-and-coming talent from the University, which will be invaluable to us going forward.”
Energy consultancy and project developer, Haider Green, specialises in energy efficiency, optimisation, renewables and utility-scale coal-to-biomass conversion. It addresses the recurrent issues of decarbonisation and energy security in a backdrop of declining conventional energy bases, growing populations and rapid industrialisation of developing countries.
Richard Green, managing director, said: “York Science Park is in an excellent location with good transportation links to London and the major airports. The Park has the resources to ensure we remain productive 24/7. Access to state-of-the-art communication, meeting and research facilities distinguishes it from other business centres in the surrounding area.”
