They recognise the cream of South Tyneside’s thriving and innovative business community and celebrate the rich success it brings.

Now, in one night and under one roof, the second annual South Tyneside Business Awards 2013 will shine a light on achievement and reward the very best companies and the inspiring people behind their achievements.

Eight categories offer firms from a range of sectors, skills and sizes, ample opportunity to show off the expertise and talents that they believe have set them apart over the past 12 months.

Categories are Newcomer of the Year, Manufacturer of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Service Company of the Year, Environmental Business of the Year, Most Innovative Business, Special Award, and the overall Business of the Year.

The categories reflect the diverse nature of businesses and entrepreneurship which have made South Tyneside a key regional centre in which to operate and trade.

All those entering have the opportunity to showcase their exciting innovations, skilful staff and overall business acumen, while winners can expect to see their star rise locally and regionally.

The South Tyneside Council awards, are supported by the South Tyneside Business Forum, and will take place at Gypsies Green, South Shields Foreshore, starting at 6.30pm on Thursday, September 12.

Organisers say they are also designed to bring the business community together to highlight and celebrate all that is good about the borough’s competitive and forward-thinking business sector.

Award sponsors confirmed so far include Siemens, Utilitywise and Colmans, all of whom will hold a seat on the judging panel alongside South Tyneside Council.

Councillor Michael Clare, Lead Member Regeneration and Economy of South Tyneside Council, said the 2012 awards had been a resounding success, and hopes to build on that again this year.

He added: “We have got some fantastic businesses in South Tyneside I would really urge everyone to enter as it’s a great opportunity to celebrate their success.”

South Shields-based high-tech firm MCPS Limited won the inaugural and coveted Business of the Year award.
