Oh, I do like to catch a bus

It’s the quintessential British day out, but the latest tourism industry research reveals the traditional trip to the seaside represents just 10 per cent of UK daytrips.

At the start of the school summer holidays, Stagecoach is launching a drive to encourage more youngsters to explore the south’s famous coast with children’s travel on its Coastliner 700 service reduced to just 10p.

Coastliner 700 runs along the coast between Brighton and Portsmouth, conveniently stopping within a short walking distance of a wealth of major attractions including Portsmouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium, Chichester Cathedral and Brighton’s North Laine. Getting closer to the sea than any train service can, the picturesque route sees buses run every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime between Brighton, Worthing and Littlehampton.

The latest travel industry research reveals just one in 10 of UK day trips are to the coast, compared to 43 per cent to the nation’s cities*.

To encourage more young people to take a trip to the seaside, Stagecoach is launching a series of offers and competitions in a bid to help people enjoy attractions such as the Spinnaker Tower, Arundel Castle and Chichester Festival Theatre.

As part of its campaign, anyone who buys an Adult Dayrider Gold ticket for £8 can take up to three children with them for just 10p each. Alternatively, under 16s can travel for £2.50 per day with a Child Dayrider Gold ticket.

The tickets offer unlimited Stagecoach bus travel across Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex and Brighton.

Stagecoach South’s Managing Director, Andrew Dyer, says the company’s mission to get residents and visitors to explore the coastline this summer was inspired by the region’s beauty.
