Thinfilm boosts online reputation with BIGprofile

As we move to a connected world filled with smart and interactive objects, ThinFilm Electronics has ramped up its online marketing strategy, to promote its printed electronics solutions for creating intelligent packing and enabling the ‘Internet of Things’. The leading electronics firm has been using BIGprofile, an integrated digital marketing platform from Fast Web Media, to increase its online visibility and reach key decision makers across FMCG and major packaging suppliers.

The collaboration has already delivered impressive results. Thinfilm used BIGprofile to specifically improve its search engine ranking and drive its target market – Fortune 1000 companies – to its website: www.thinfilm.no As a result, organic web traffic increased by 116% when comparing the number of visits in April 2013 to April 2012. Referral traffic also experienced a significant increase of 171% during the same period. Furthermore, the number of unique visitors to the site increased by 20% and the average visit duration increased to 2.28 minutes.

“The ‘Internet of Things’ is a major trend right now and, as a manufacturer of electronic film, we want to promote the fact that we can deliver this embedded intelligence with our solutions that can be applied to almost any type of packaging or device,” said Heidi Arnesen, Communications Manager at Thinfilm. “For Thinfilm to be perceived as the market leader by our target audience, we have created a more intuitive website and created more of a buzz online through PR and social media. BIGprofile enables us to improve our SEO, which will only enhance our existing activities and reputation.”

Social media has played an integral part in Thinfilm’s digital marketing strategy. Although a relatively new direction for the company, it regularly creates conversions on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. For the social media activities to complement the SEO strategy, Thinfilm is working with Fast Web Media to deliver a campaign that will attract attention from companies searching for embedded intelligence solutions.

Heidi Arnesen added: “BIGprofile has definitely helped us get the results we wanted in terms of search engine visibility. It’s also given us quality leads, which has been a challenge for us in the past. Our Google ranking has improved too and, when searching the key terms we identified - such as ‘thin film electronics’ - we rank higher than our competitors. We’ve learnt there is a clear synergy between search and social media, and Fast Web Media has helped join up our digital marketing activities. Furthermore, we have been given guidance on using social media and, more specifically, how Thinfilm can get better visibility on YouTube.”

BIGprofile is a complete digital marketing package that includes SEO, search strategy and consultancy, PPC, social media and online PR. Users can check their online presence and performance against competitors using the service’s intuitive dashboard, which spans a range of digital marketing channels and data including Google Analytics, social media channels and keyword measurement.

The ‘Internet of Things’ is a trend driven by embedded intelligence on objects and devices (such as retail packaging, domestic appliances and so on), where each device is capable of providing actionable information about itself, its users, or its environment. Although the ‘Internet of Things’ is well over a trillion dollar market today, the cost of electronics has limited its reach.

Thinfilm’s printed electronic labels bring simple electronic functionality into high-volume, cost-sensitive applications - areas like packaging of perishable products, one-time-use medical products, and disposable consumer goods.
