New hotel adds sparkle to Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter
Joint venture company, Birmingham Regeneration LP has completed a £10 million Hampton by Hilton hotel on Constitution Hill in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.
The Hampton by Hilton Birmingham City North hotel has been delivered by a partnership between Midlands-based property development and investment company Great Hampton Group (GHG) and asset and Cheshire-based development managers Merepark Project Management LLP.
Birmingham Regeneration LP is headed by managing director of GHG Harry Kenth working alongside Merepark’s managing director Richard Peel and Chairman Robert Ross.
The new hotel is spread across five floors, and offers 109 quality en-suite rooms with first-class facilities including a fitness room, restaurant and 24-hour bar. The venue also benefits from easy access to Birmingham Snow Hill train station and the M5 and M6 and is in the unique Jewellery Quarter area of the city. It is also within walking distance of the city centre and on the St Paul’s tram stop.
Commenting on the joint venture, Richard Peel said: “We’re delighted to be announcing the launch of this remarkable venue. Birmingham has long been at the forefront of regeneration and development and it’s great to be contributing to the growth and development of the city with the successful delivery of a project on this scale.
“Birmingham Regeneration LP is a partnership with long term plans and we are delighted that all the hard work in bringing it together has paid off, as we deliver this fantastic new hotel for the city region.”
The hotel will be Hampton by Hilton’s second in the Birmingham region following the Broad Street hotel. A 20-year agreement was entered into by Hilton following the initial grant of planning permission for the hotel in 2009.
Harry Kenth from GHG said: “I have a long association with this building and it’s very satisfying to see it renovated and converted to such a high-level. The Jewellery Quarter has a rich and unique heritage and is fast growing into a vibrant, thriving urban village. We believe this new venture will add something special to the area’s leisure offering and we’re pleased to be handing over the high-quality finished venue to Hampton by Hilton.”
Principal contractors, Anglo Holt carried out the extensive restoration and refurbishment of the building over a 57-week period. The project involved the major renovation and conversion of the existing building, which was formerly a chemical factory occupied by Cannings. The facade of the building has now been fully renovated to retain much of the building’s traditional character - in line with the local planning authority requirements.
James Mandley, Operations Manager at Anglo Holt, said: “We’re delighted to have reached completion on this ambitious and challenging project. Anglo Holt has a great depth of experience in delivering high-quality refurbishment schemes on this scale and we’ve enjoyed working on a development which is going to give the local economy a positive boost by attracting even more visitors to this area of the city.”
High net worth individuals have also invested in the project via Mazars. Hammond’s (now Squire Sanders) acted on behalf of GHG and DLA Piper acted on behalf of Merepark.
