Stelios to launch budget grocer
EasyJet founder and renowned entrepreneur Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou has announced his intentions to launch a budget grocery retailer.
Sir Stelio’s easyGroup hope to undercut existing budget retailers, such as Aldi and Lidl, providing basic foodstuffs.
The Greek entrepreneur says the idea was triggered after reading about the growing use of food banks, in the media.
Tinned food and non-branded packaged items will be on offer through the new store, which will be trialled in Croydon at the easyGroup building.
Sir Stelios said: “Concentrating on affordable, basic ‘no-brand-name’ packet and tinned foods at bargain prices, easyFoodstore underlines the need for additional reliable day-to-day provision of basic foodstuffs. No other details have yet been decided.”
