Teesside group to set up Ghana training ‘satellite’

A Teesside-based training group has won a contract to set up a new satellite of its world-class training facilities.

The TTE Technical Training Group has announced a major new partnership in Ghana with Tullow Oil, representing the Jubilee Partners and the Takoradi Polytechnic College.

The deal will see it establish a new training centre and provide technical training advice and guidance aimed at equipping local technicians with knowledge and skills for the oil, gas manufacturing and mining industries.

As the chosen consultancy partner, TTE technical experts will advise and specify training equipment, provide and organise the curriculum and course notes and then deliver training at the new Jubilee Technical Training Centre (known as the JTTC) at the Takoradi Polytechnic in Ghana.

Two centre co-ordinators will be provided by TTE as well as four assessors, who will work on rotation.

The TTE assessors will mentor the Ghanaian lead trainers and training staff during the contract which will run until 2015.

TTE will set up the JTTC as a satellite centre of its world class training facilities on Teesside.

As such, it will award level 2 NVQ diplomas in electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and process engineering.

Although linked to developments in the Jubilee Field, which is located 60km offshore in the Atlantic Ocean and has a production capacity of 120,000 barrels of oil per day, the JTTC will also support the development of skills for other industry sectors.

Steve Grant, managing director of the TTE Technical Training Group, said: “We are very proud to support the technical development of people in Ghana as it seeks to exploit the huge Jubilee oil field.

“We work closely with in-country clients around the world and use handpicked, experienced training professionals who are specialists at equipping local workforces with skills and competencies as well as providing training for local trainers to enable them to effectively deliver qualifications.”

TTE is globally-recognised as one of the leading technical training specialists for sectors including oil and gas, manufacturing and the process industry.

It previously set up a training centre for BP in Baku, Azerbaijan which provides skills development and competencies for nationals working on assets in the Caspian Sea.

In addition to utilising its high-specification, industry-standard training facilities in Middlesbrough, North East England, TTE regularly provides technician training and assessment at customer plants, factories and production facilities.

As a charitable organisation, TTE reinvests all of its profits from its UK and International commercial activities to help fund the training of future generations of technicians in the North East.
