Recycling deal has synergy
An environmental partnership between two of the region’s most respected businesses is continuing to bear the green shoots of success.
Car parts manufacturer Nifco UK has used J & B Recycling to manage its waste streams for several years.
As Nifco’s reputation has developed both regionally and nationally, J & B Recycling has adapted its services to ensure as little waste as possible is going to landfill.
That has included speaking to Nifco staff about the business and environmental benefits of recycling; site visits to J & B’s Hartlepool processing plant; and helping to design and plan recycling bays and service areas.
J & B Recycling has also installed compacting machines at Nifco’s manufacturing plant in Eaglescliffe to increase the amount of waste handled and the efficiency with which it is processed.
Brian Wilson, logistics leader at Nifco UK, said: “Efficiencies within recycling and waste management is something that Nifco UK is keen to implement from top to bottom – from the offices, canteens and meeting rooms, to the factory floor and warehousing areas.
“It is something that every business needs to manage well to ensure as little waste as possible ends up in landfill.
“Our partnership with J & B Recycling has helped that process become far leaner and more efficient.”
J & B Recycling, which recycles approximately 100,000 tonnes of waste each year from household, commercial, industrial and construction sources, is Hartlepool’s Business of the Year and also won the Corporate Responsibility and Environment category at this year’s Teesside finals of the North East Business Awards.
It works with customers across the private and public sectors – including software giants Sage UK, Middlesbrough College and Middleton Grange Shopping Centre – and puts a particular onus on educating clients about improving their recycling rates.
The business worked closely with Nifco UK when it was planning and developing waste management strategies for its facility at Eaglescliffe.
Commercial manager Mark Penny said: “As Nifco has grown, inevitably increasing its waste volumes, we have had to respond and adapt to provide the best possible solution.
“Every facility is different and we need to make our services as efficient as possible, minimising disruption to their day-to-day operations.”
