Glue company heading for Europe and beyond

A North East adhesives business which has been awarded ISO 14001certification looks set for further expansion within Europe and beyond as a result of achieving the environmental management standard which focuses on performance improvement, legal compliance and reporting duties.

Located in North Tyneside, Advanced Industrial Products, better known as Advanced Adhesives, already punches above its weight, counting global brands such as JCB, Nissan, Caterpillar and Aston Martin as clients. With ISO 14001, a certification that less than one per cent of UK businesses have achieved, the stage is set for further expansion.

Delighted with the news, managing director, Graham Crozier said: “We have always been proud of the service we offer our clients and the way we conduct our business, operating at all times with due regard to the environment. With the award of ISO 14001 this has now been confirmed by an independent external body which judges standards on a daily basis across a wide variety of trades and industries.

“We supply high quality adhesives and technical support to some really blue chip brands and we wanted to achieve this certification both in response to their requirements but also to demonstrate that as a business, we are committed to continuous improvement. We also have a year on year strategy in place to lower our environmental impact and reduce our carbon footprint.

“I believe this certification will act as a spur to further growth for us, particularly within the thriving automotive sector. This will lead to an increase in staff numbers. We currently employ five full and part time staff and are currently looking to move from our current 2,000m2 factory premises into a 9,000m2 facility which is an indication of our confidence in the future.”

To obtain ISO 14001 a survey of all business operations was undertaken to ensure that Advanced Adhesives was compliant with UK and European criteria for manufacturing and waste disposal. Nick Parks, who undertook the assessment for QMS International was particularly impressed by the ‘investment in people and training that enables Advanced Adhesives to provide an efficient and environmentally friendly service to customers’.

Advanced Adhesives, which already holds ISO 9001 certification, offers a complete consultancy, product development and technical back-up service and has been supplying customers with adhesive and dispensing solutions for bonding for over 20 years.

Together with the automotive sector, the business also boasts an extensive customer base in the marine, electronics, aerospace, signage, white goods manufacturing, construction, power generation, military and engineering sectors.
