£5m investment to revamp Salford City College

Salford City College has has received £5m from the Government’s College Capital Investment Fund (CCIF).

The money will be used to improve facilities at City Sixth Form Centre and further develop the FutureSkills centre at MediaCityUK.

City Sixth Form Centre will be completely transformed with the external building re-clad and extensive building work taking place internally, developing and upgrading some of the classrooms and workshops.

FutureSkills at MediaCityUK will be expanded to meet employer skills demand within MediaCityUK, including TV Production and related sectors.

Skills Minister Matthew Hancock said: “I’m delighted to announce £2million in Government funding for Salford City College, combined with £4million of private money, to help transform their campus and improve teaching and learning locally.”

“The Government is helping to create specialist facilities that will ensure thousands of students get the best possible learning experience and inspire them to reach their potential, while addressing local skills shortages.

“We are making the skills system more rigorous and responsive to the needs of employers, and this funding will help do that.”

Graham Pennington, deputy chief executive at Salford City College commented: “This funding will enable us to offer more courses to local people which meets local employment needs. The funding enables us to do work that we would not have otherwise been able to do and we are excited by the impact that this will have.”
