Dixons and Dunelm Mill land in Cramlington
Two major retailers have been signed up for Cramlington’s Manor Walks Retail Park redevelopment.
Dixons has taken a unit for a 2-in-1 superstore for its Currys and PC World brands, and homeware specialists, Dunelm Mill will also open a store there.
Developers Hammerson are redeveloping the Manor Walks park with further leisure facilities, including a VUE cinema which opened in July.
The latest lettings take the development to 72% let by floor space, which will be anchored by Marks & Spencer with a 1,486m² (16,000ft²) Simply Food store. All the signings are taking retail space in the town for the first time.
James Rowbotham, development manager for Hammerson, commented: “There is a significant gap in major retail brands in Cramlington which our redevelopment of both the shopping centre and retail park at Manor Walks has been able to address. There is strong consumer demand and by widening the town’s retail offer we are confident of capturing growing retail spend.”
Dunelm Mill chief executive, Nick Wharton said: “We are always excited about the opening of a new store. It takes a lot of hard work, investment and commitment getting a new store up and running and we are delighted to bring our extensive range of homewares items to Cramlington for the very first time. We are confident that the Manor Walks Retail Park will play a valuable part in the continued success of the company.”
Work has started on site with Dunelm and Dixon’s Retail expected to be open for Christmas 2013 and Marks & Spencer in spring 2014.
Morgan Williams and Perkins Fox acted on behalf of Hammerson, Cushman & Wakefield acted on behalf of Dixons Retail and Mason & Partners represented Dunelm Mill.
