Conference centre plans for Liverpool dock

Plans have been submitted to convert a disused warehouse in Liverpool’s Stanley Dock into a conference centre.

Stanley Dock Properties, the firm owned by Harcourt Developments’ chairman Pat Doherty, is currently converting the dock’s Victorian north warehouse into a hotel and plans to convert the nearby tobacco warehouse into apartments.

Originally the firm had intended to demolish the adjacent 1950s building known as the Rum Warehouse, but now plans to transform it into a conference and banqueting space.

The original character of the building will be retained with the fabric upgraded to meet modern standards.

A statement prepared by architects RPS said: “The planning application seeks permission for a mixed use development for a conference and banqueting centre with ground, mezzanine and first floor levels, including a large flexible ground floor dockside banquet room with conference and meeting rooms at first floor and ancillary accommodation such as dispensing kitchens, stores and office space.” Stanley Dock Properties is planning to complete the conversion of the North Warehouse in time for the city’s 60-day International Festival for Business next year. The dock, north of the city centre, is part of Liverpool’s World Heritage site.
