Brims Construction supports disadvantaged communities

Brims Construction has been praised for supporting a charity that helps youngsters from deprived communities get a fresh start in life.

The Sunderland company has a long-standing relationship with Tyneside Building Futures East (BFE) and this year Brims supported its annual celebration event.

Anthony Woods-Waters Chief Executive of BFE, said: “Brims have been consistently strong and long-standing supporters of BFE and its work. Like us, they have a commitment to the region, its economy and its people.

“It is hugely encouraging, and indeed advantageous to us, to have such a prestigious local company contributing on so many levels to our mission to transform the lives of those from our most disadvantaged communities.”

BFE is an established community regeneration organisation based in the east end of Newcastle delivering vocational skills training, personal development and support to some of the city’s most deprived neighbourhoods.

At BFE’s recent annual Celebration of Success Awards Brims sponsored the Construction Learner prize, with Brims director Richard Wood presenting the winner, Martin Green, winner during the ceremony in Northumbria University’s Great Hall.

Richard said: “We are fully committed to projects such as Building Futures East and are delighted to be able to help its in-going work.

“As a socially responsible contractor, we wholly embrace opportunities to support the regeneration of disadvantaged communities

Brims has been involved in the BFE scheme for a number of years offering training and work placements to their students for periods of up to one year, with some going on to get full-time jobs with the company.

Richard added: “Building Futures East help to improve the life chances for many individuals and we are proud to be able to support it.”

BFE is based on Walker Riverside with much of its training being provided free to residents from areas of disadvantage north and south of the River Tyne.

Building Futures East’s 2nd Annual Celebration of Success Awards Event was held at Northumbria University’s Great Hall with over 120 learners, sponsors, presenters, employers, partners, staff, families and friends in attendance.

Helen Tweddle, head of operations at BFE said: “Brims have been highly valued supporters of our work for a number of years.

“Their on-going sponsorship of our Celebration of Success event has a real impact upon the learners we work with, sending a strong message that lifelong learning and skills development is important to employers and something to be actively promoted.

“Without the goodwill and enthusiasm of employers like Brims, we would struggle to offer the enrichment and wider support that is so important to changing lives.”
