Birmingham man powers to top award

A Birmingham man dubbed ‘the machine’ has powered his way to awards success after impressing his peers at an energy specialist firm in the city.

Matt Chima landed the top accolade when recruitment firm Katie Bard held its annual Temp of the Year Awards at The Lounge at The Cube.

The 25-year-old was nominated by Eco-Residential after impressing at the Jewellery Business Centre-based company where he was placed in an administration support role by Katie Bard – a leading recruitment agency in Waterloo Street which is part of the international Angela Mortimer Group.

Matt, from Kingshurst, was originally only due to be with Eco-Residential for a few days, but impressed management and ended up enjoying a five month stay with the business.

Katie Morton, from Katie Bard, said Matt consistently exceeded high expectations and was a worthy winner.

“Matt set extremely high standards, and was regularly praised for being extremely efficient and always tried his hardest to get jobs done as quickly as possible,” she said.

“The tremendous work ethic Matt demonstrated day in day out meant he was often called “the machine” by his colleagues! He is a worthy winner of our top award.

“The Temp of the Year Awards are a fantastic way for us to honour our temporary workers as we pride ourselves and our business on the quality of our temporary workers and the positive impact they have on businesses.

“Many organisations could not function without temporary workers and we congratulate all our winners and finalists this year for their achievements.”

Matt, who now works as a web designer at People Matters Network in Edgbaston, also picked up the award for most inspirational temp.

He said: “I joined Eco-Residential during a very busy time for the company, and we often had stacks of work to get through. I knuckled down and got through as much as I could, which I suppose was the reason for me being called ‘the machine’ at times, but I’m not sure about that name!

“It was a big surprise to be nominated for the award, and even more of a surprise to win.”

Other winners on the night included Kate Weston-Patel (outstanding contribution award), Jodie Davies (reach for the stars award), Mitesh Khatri (safe pair of hands), Claire Whiteman-Haywood (little bit extra award) and Jan Green (employers choice award).
