Pupils wina design a van competition
Two artistic students won free tickets to this year’s Ashbourne show where they had the chance to see their winning design-a-van entries unveiled to the Derby public.
Year nine students at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Chloe Kingaby and Hannah Taylor, managed to beat off stiff competition from fellow classmates, with their imaginative designs for the Volkswagen vans.
Imperial Commercials Volkswagen Van Centre challenged the students to design bespoke livery for a Volkswagen Transporter that would advertise a mobile business of their choice. The scheme aimed to boost the youngsters’ design skills and spark their interest in business.
Fourteen year old Chloe’s winning design was a colourful one for her chosen business of a Floristry. Chloe said: “I went with the bold bright colours to make the vehicle stand out. Small businesses need to make an impact in the area they’re targeting so I figured what better way to do that than to be loud and proud.”
Hannah, also fourteen, was just as pleased to have won the competition, she comments: “It’s an honour to have my design for a Make-Up Artist’s company van selected, seeing it on an actual van and having it displayed at the Ashbourne show was incredible.”
David Starr, head of business at Imperial Commercials Volkswagen Van Centre, said: “This competition was a great way for youngsters to learn about design and take an interest in the business world and Chloe and Hannah have certainly done that.
“The girls have shown that they have such vivid imaginations, what better way to reward them by showcasing their creativity.”
In addition to tickets to the Ashbourne show, Claire and Hannah also won a Volkswagen Herbie Sledge and a remote control Volkswagen Campervan. David added: “The two designs will be on show on the Transporter vans for the next six months and we will be using them to promote Imperial Commercials in and around Derby.” For more information about Imperial Commercials Derby call 01332 825300.
