Warehouse service makes a splash

A Teesside warehousing firm is helping an online entrepreneur to make a splash in the bathroom business.

Layton Grafton supplies bathroom suites to customers across the country via his Low Cost Bathrooms website, but rapid growth meant Layton was quickly running out of space to store the toilets, baths, basins and cabinets ordered by customers.

In stepped Nicholson’s Transport to offer Layton warehousing space in its 55,000 sq ft facility in Billingham, as well as a pick and pack service meaning orders can be processed and shipped in a matter of minutes.

Layton, from Stockton, said: “I only set up the website in April and have been surprised by how quickly it has grown. But it meant I soon ran out of space.

“I knew Nicholson’s had warehousing facilities and using their storage space has been a real boost to my own business because it means I can concentrate solely on growing the website, without worrying about packing orders and deliveries.”

Nicholson’s Transport provides a total logistics solution for businesses looking to ship goods quickly around the country.

It has six on/off loading bays suitable for conventional and container traffic, a fully computerised stock control system and 24 hour security including CCTV.

Its pick and pack service – which involves outsourcing of storage, order processing and delivery requirements across the UK and Europe – has been used by everyone from e-Bay sellers to crisp and soft drinks manufacturers.

Melanie Taylor, business development manager at Nicholson’s Transport, said: “Many of our warehouse customers are smaller start-ups or growing businesses like Layton’s that happen to have lots of stock but neither the time nor the space to be able to manage it effectively, giving it the attention it needs.”
