Affordable housing scheme underway in Liverpool

Work is starting in Liverpool on a new affordable housing project.

Located on the site of the former Boot Estate in Norris Green, the ‘Ellergreen’ development, branded as ‘the new Norris Green’, has already regenerated the area into an attractive residential community, with 318 new homes now completed.

Eventually just 500 new homes will replace the 2,000 pre-fabricated concrete homes of the Boot Estate that were built in the 1920′s.

The new second phase at ‘Ellergreen’ will initially offer 31 homes for sale. Three and four bedroom house designs are to be built. Demand for new homes on the development is strong with all the four bedroom properties already reserved off plan.

Councillor Malcolm Kennedy, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, performed the traditional ground-breaking launch ceremony.

He said: “These are exciting times for Norris Green. Working with New City Vision and the Homes and Communities Agency, we are transforming housing for local people, creating a positive, lasting impact on the area and rebuilding communities.

“The regeneration of Norris Green is a major priority for us, so I’m delighted that our efforts are really bearing fruit.

“The start of work on the second phase of the Ellergreen scheme demonstrates our on-going commitment to the neighbourhood, and is the latest example of the fantastic strides we are making in providing good quality, affordable housing for the people who need it most.”

Don Craven, Managing Director of New City Vision Liverpool, said: “This new phase marks an important milestone at ‘Ellergreen’.

“It marks the on-going success of the scheme in continuing to help homebuyers on to the property ladder. Plus it confirms our commitment to deliver more high quality new homes to help meet the demand.”

Philip Graves, home-ownership officer of Neighbourhood Investor – Homes Hub, the government’s appointed ‘help to buy’ agents for Merseyside and Cheshire, added: “Ellegreen is now an established residential community and it is fantastic to see the development move on to the next phase.

“The help to buy equity loan scheme means that the dream of home ownership can be achieved with just a 5% deposit and we are looking forward to helping more purchasers get onto the property ladder through help to buy in this new phase.”
