Pop-up MarketPlace in Newcastle

A new pop-up business market that will give young traders and start-ups the opportunity to showcase their talent - is being launched in Newcastle this week.

On Saturday September 14, from 12noon until 5pm, budding new businesses will gather at Space2 on Clayton Street to create a bustling pop-up market, marking the launch of The MarketPlace.

Organised and funded by Business Sparks along with Solar Learning, Space2 and Newcastle Enterprise Club, The MarketPlace will new business start-ups and young traders the opportunity to test trading conditions in a city-centre location with a high footfall.

The MarketPlace will be officially launched by Elswick ward councillor Habib Rahman.

Representatives from Newcastle Enterprise Club and Solar Learning will be available to help visitors and guests.

Businesses taking part include; Hafi Arts, who will be selling original artwork, Opulent Mehndi, who will be selling henna designed gifts, iGifts, Hidden Beauty and Great Time Events party planners. On the day customers can purchase milkshakes from Shake It Up and henna artists Trendi Mehndi will be offering free henna for children under 16.

Business Sparks development officer Hannah Morrow said:“This is a fantastic opportunity for young people with a great business idea or a new start up business to test trading conditions in a real-life, affordable and minimal risk environment.

“Not only that, but the event itself will provide great exposure for each business and an opportunity for the traders to get a taste for selling direct to customers, face-to-face.”

As well as The MarketPlace, to celebrate the launch there will be free candy floss for the first 100 visitors, many children’s activities including dance performances and workshops, stilt walkers, face painting and entertainment.
