Get the reward and recognition your marketing deserves

We have many great marketing campaigns produced her in the North East for both large and small companies but it has surprised and disappointed me that only a handful of the campaigns and projects ever get recognised by their peers nationally.

I must conclude that is because the people who create these successful campaigns - the advertising and design companies and their clients – simply do not enter the campaigns into national awards

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) are now inviting entries into our prestigious Annual Marketing Excellence Awards. Currently in its fifth year, this annual event provides the opportunity to recognise outstanding work from marketing individuals, teams and projects countrywide, and to acknowledge the positive value of marketing in delivering real benefits to both business and society.

To have more north east companies represented at the Awards Presentation Dinner in London in February would be a great and fitting showcase for the region, and give me such personal satisfaction as I conclude my term of office as Chairman of our great Institute.

These awards are not just for those large budget marketers, and are not confined just to members. All companies and organisations are welcome. There are special categories for small budgets, business-to-business, and for the not-for-profit organisations. 22 awards in all. I would urge all companies, public bodies and charities to send in entries and be judged along with entries from all over the country. There are many very successful marketing campaigns in this region and it would be great to have them judged on a national bases. The awards are a fantastic way to recognise the outstanding creativity and originality being delivered by marketers who are on the frontline of their industry, and to celebrate the demonstrable results being generated through successful marketing campaigns.

In the last awards we had three north east based companies on the short list and I was delighted to see that in the past Newcastle Building Society has won in the Financial Services – Banking and Investment category against some heavy marketing spenders such as the main clearing banks, for their “Big Little Saver” marketing campaign aimed at increasing the awareness of the importance of adopting a saving habit from an early age.

Marketing Excellence Awards – Entry deadline 5 October 2012

The awards this year again feature new categories reflecting the changes in the communications marketplace and the increasing use of digital and emerging technologies being used by marketers to engage and communicate with customers. These include mobile marketing, digital marketing, social media marketing and customer experience, and are in addition to 15 industry and three individual categories:

I do hope that more companies enter the awards so that we can showcase the work of the region.

Further information on entering the CIM Marketing Excellence Awards 2013 can be found at www.cimawards.co.uk. The entry deadline is 4 October 2013, with finalists being announced from 18th November 2013.
