TJ Hughes opens store on The Moor

TJ Hughes has opened its new Sheffield store after completing the relocation into the retail units adjacent to the new Moor Market building, as part of SWIPPT’s (Scottish Widows Investment Partnership Trust’s) regeneration of The Moor.

The retailer moved into a new 40,000 sq ft store yesterday, with the store launch coming ahead of the grand opening of the new £18 million, 183 stall Moor Market in November.

TJ Hughes specialises in homewares, electricals, gardening products as well as fashion & accessories. Along with Debenhams, Atkinsons and BHS, it is now one of four department and variety stores in place for The Moor’s renaissance.

Chris McKewan, stores director; said: “Following strong performance of our nine outlets, the new TJ Hughes store in Sheffield is part of our ambitious growth plans over the coming year. The investment and current changes to The Moor means that we are confident we are in the right place at the right time.”

Joining TJ Hughes in the new retail units in The Moor Market building will be Iceland and Poundland, who will be taking 7,000 sq ft and 12,000 sq ft respectively.

Ashcroft is the asset and development manager appointed to oversee the long-awaited development. Director, Ranald Philips, said: “We are impressed with the significant improvements that have been made to TJ Hughes under its new ownership and believe that they will be ideal tenants who will build on their undoubted customer loyalty.

“Its decision to commit to the early phase of our regeneration proposals further demonstrates the growing confidence and recognition that The Moor is changing for the better. Already excitement is building in the run up to the opening of Sheffield’s new city centre market in November and the recent commitment of Iceland and Poundland to the retail units adjacent to TJ Hughes means that shoppers and visitors can now both see and experience a more vibrant city centre.

“We look forward to making further announcements about the remaining units in this phase and the cinema and restaurant operators for Phase 2 of the redevelopment, which will be anchored by the recently secured Primark flagship fashion store.”

The Moor is taking a stall at Sheffield Food Festival (20th-22nd September), where visitors can find out more about future plans.
