Moor Market traders set to give a taste of things to come

A selection of stall holders preparing to move into the new Moor Market will be promoting their businesses and the venue by giving shoppers a taste of things to come from the Sheffield Food Festival this weekend.

The £18m, 183 stall Moor Market will open in November. Traders will use the festival to serve up samples from their stalls and take part in a series of on-stage interviews at the event.

Those taking part over the weekend include:

Yee Kwan, from Yee Kwan’s Happy Valley Ice Cream (today, 11.30am)

Mark Holmes, from Punch Stores, a baker, confectioner, grocer (today, 2.30pm) Sean Clarke, from Beer Central, specialist beer seller (Saturday, 11.30am) Steve Waterall, from Waterall Brothers Ltd, specialist butchers (Saturday, 2.30pm) Nicholas Tissington, from Coffee @ Moor Market café (Sunday, 11.30am) Abbas Shah, from Mrs Shah’s Curry Mix, Indian café (Sunday, 2.30pm)

Nicholas Tissington said: “My family has been involved in the market trade for 70 years and the opening of the new Moor Market is a great opportunity to expand on this with a new specialist coffee stall.

“The Moor Market stall at the Sheffield Food Festival will give many people a preview of the coffee we will be serving at the new home of Sheffield’s markets when it opens in November. Other market traders taking part will be showcasing everything from beer and bhajis to pork pies and parkin.

“The food festival has become a great event for Sheffield and it is a really exciting time for local produce and talented food producers in the city.”

Sandra Barley, centre liaison manager for Moor Sheffield, said: “We are really excited about welcoming the new markets building to The Moor in just a couple of months’ time and it has been great to link up a number of the stall holders to the Food Festival.

Shoppers are also be given the chance to take part in competitions for prizes including a vouchers for a number of The Moor outlets, a retail hamper and a Kitchen Aid food mixer.
