Independent business awards response prompts venue change
Organisers of a new awards ceremony for local businesses say the response has been so overwhelming that they have been forced to change the venue.
The inaugural Merseyside Independent Business Awards aim to showcase the best of the region’s successful entrepreneurs and family businesses across a wide range of sectors including manufacturing, technology and retail.
There will also be accolades to reward businesses for their growth, innovation and investment into communities.
The winners were due to be announced at a ceremony on Thursday October 3 at Secret Space on Water Street however, due to the high level of nominations and ticket enquiries, the event will now take place at The Black-E on Great George Street on the same date.
The MIB awards have been launched in association with law firm Morecrofts in celebration of its 200th anniversary year to recognise and celebrate the unique impact that independent businesses make on the region.
Helen Broughton, managing partner at Morecrofts, said: “The spirit of the awards is to acknowledge the vibrant independent business community across Merseyside and that ethos has been adopted fantastically well by a large number of firms, as well as their customers and suppliers.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of the team at Secret Space but an extraordinary level of nominations has been matched by the appetite for ticket sales at the awards ceremony itself, so much so that we realised we would need a much larger space to cater for the demand.
“There are only a few venues in the city able to accommodate such large numbers and we have turned to one of the proud independent businesses featured in our shortlist, however it’s worth stressing that the move in no way impacts on the judges’ decision, which has already been taken.
“We also hope the awards will provide a legacy whereby nominees and winners have a platform to achieve further success in the future, so where better to host the ceremony than a venue that retains such a strong commitment to the development of young people.”
A limited number of tickets for the event remain available. Please visit www.mibawards.co.uk for further information.
