Wigan firms embrace staff well-being scheme
More than 60 Wigan businesses including Heinz, Wigan & Leigh College, Lowri Beck and Ash Hire Ltd are excelling at improving staff wellbeing.
The businesses have all gone through the ‘Good Health; Good Work Charter’, a nationally recognised accreditation by Public Health England that recognises employers who demonstrate a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of their employees.
The charter gives businesses the opportunity to officially gain recognition for their dedication to the wellbeing of their staff.
Wigan and Leigh College began the free charter process in July 2012, achieving its ‘Good Health; Good Work’ charter award in November.
Louise Brown, Executive Director of Human Resources at Wigan and Leigh College said: “The wellbeing strategy has been extremely well received by staff at the college who have given us a lot of positive feedback.
“The college has already seen positive outcomes as a result of the investment and commitment we have made to health and wellbeing and we look forward to this growing and developing as we fully embrace and embed our health and wellbeing strategy.”
Carol Southern from WLCT said: “The Workplace Wellbeing Charter is the perfect way for employers to showcase their dedication to their staff; not only that, the businesses and organisations will benefit through improved employee morale and reduced sickness absence.
“The changes and processes that Wigan and Leigh College have now implemented are testament to their dedication to the people that work there. It was a great experience working with them and they truly deserve their accreditation.”
The service is open to all businesses in Wigan Borough, from micro-organisations with a handful of employees up to large, multi-national companies.
